STORY: Around Ausangate

9 of 31 : The Dying Apu

On the third day you start from the lake, going up. This photo is looking back to a specific needle that was, according to the paqos completely covered with snow and ice, some 20 years ago, but now it is barren. Climate change can be seen here too. According to an indigenous prophecy the shamanic knowledge had to come out of the mountains when the ice would going to melt, and the knowledge made public to the world. For this reason the paqos are quite willing to teach what they know to outsiders. It is not possible for us to go through the curriculum for years to become a shaman, but this is not necessary anymore.
You can take it in parts and I have been seven times to Peru, in all about eight intensive months of working and learning.
