Panda bears live in China, but are nowadays exported in lease by the government. The photo’s in this map are made in the summer of 2007 when I visited China and also visited in Chengdu the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base (Xiongmao Jidi). The animals have gained their reputation as mascotte of the World Wildlife Foundation (WFF), and figuring in the animated movies of Kong Fu Panda, and indeed in reality are very pleasant to look at. But they are wild animals.
In Chengdu a breeding program tries to save this highly specialised animal. They only can eat a special kind of bamboo.
