Title: Clouds in the form of a lama fetus

During one of my treks around Ausangate, quite early in the morning – you can see the ground is still frozen – clouds had build up over the mountain in the form of a lama fetus. In Peruvian shamanism this is seen as a very auspicious sign. I have travelled between 2008 and 2017 seven times to Peru and mainly visited the region east and south-east of Cusco, this is where the Ausangate and Huaman Lipa mountains lie, and also the region of Q’eros, a tribe of indigenous people that because of the remoteness and inaccesability of the mountains have maintained  over the centuries much of their customs. The Q’eros shamans are highly regarded in Peru itself. They themselves say that with the melting of the gletschers an old prophecy is fulfilled and that their knowledge has to be taught to westerners, who will be the new shamans. Whatever is true of this, I have learned their language, and from their knowledge in these years. In this series you will find pictures that are loosely related to my main topic of studying Peruvian high altitude shamanism, but also from other regions in the south of Peru. The landscape and the people are interesting enough.
