In 2007 when this picture was taken there were two ways to walk the Great Wall from the starting point nearby Beijing. The first was to the right, which was done by all Chinese visitors, because supposedly Mao had walked there. The second was to the left, where it was empty except for some foreigners.
A photo like this cannot be taken anymore.
